The Whickers – a foundation dedicated to supporting emerging women filmmakers named after pioneering British broadcaster Alan Whicker – announced their recipients for The 2019 Whickers/Chicken & Egg Pictures Award and it was our film – YAAAAAYYYY!!!! The prize is a £10 000 grant. Previous films that have won this award include The Surrender of Waymond Hall, directed by Jane Greenberg; The Feeling of Being Watched, directed by Assia Boundaoui; and A Cops and Robbers Story, directed by Ilinca Calugareanu.
How did this happen?
Because we are 2019 Chicken & Egg Eggcelerator Lab recipients, in June 2019, our team travelled to the Sheffield Documentary Festival in the U.K to attend the second of three Chicken & Egg Film Labs which was happening at the film festival. We were also part of the Sheffield Meet Market, which was an amazing opportunity to meet industry stakeholders in one on one 20 minute meetings, speed dating style. The day before the Meet Market started, we had pitched our film to the film industry and the public at the Chicken & Egg Pitching Session alongside 9 of the 2019 Eggcelerator Lab films, which are AMAZING.
From those pitches, The Whickers selected their winner and we are deeply humbled by what turned out to be a totally unanticipated award. Thank you to the Whickers and the Chicken & Egg team for the award and the incredible support we have received on this journey.
